Los Angeles Infernal Black Metal Wrath of Logarius (formerly Martyr Logarius) returns with Necrotic Assimilation.   This is an EP at a little over nineteen minutes.  Things get kicked off with a ninety-second intro track called “At the Knighted Throne”.  Kind of eerie swelling synth strings.   Tempo builds and builds and segues into track two.

“Swarm” wastes zero time setting the stage for what to expect for rest of EP.  Lord Marco’s drumming is very much on point and the intensity is set to ludicrous speed. The guitar riffing is blistering.   There is a fun breakdown towards the middle of the song.  The track gets a bit heavy towards the end.  One thing is for sure this is well produced, and the performances are solid across the board.  Vocalist, Noctifier adds his own icy crispiness to the band’s presentation.

“The Burning One” fades in to kick off track three. Once the track gets going holds on to your hats.   This track is another example of interesting contrast.  These black metallers are not reinventing the wheel this is still a fun listen.  Necrotic Assimilation continues with another instrumental track “The Void Dweller”.  This one features piano.

“Soul Ascension” opens with a heavy clean tone riff that builds into a heavier part.   This one is one of the slower tracks on the EP and has a melodic post-black metal vibe to it.  I dig the guitar work of Vastator and Urath. The overall mix is very good.  Sounds like they sampled The Omen 3 quite a bit throughout the EP although I may be wrong on that.

“Beyond the Last Gate” finishes things up on is the craziest song presented on Necrotic Assimilation.  Lord Marco’s drum work is ridiculous here and is almost making my vision vibrate.  This is another track where the feel of the song switches towards the second half.  They go from more infernal styled black metal to almost heavier, groove based extreme metal.   There is some cool contrast going on here and then it fades out with another movie sample.  These guys did a good job of pacing the tracks out with the instrumentals, it makes EP feel longer than it actually is.  I wish it were a bit longer.

I hope they do a full length as it will be interesting to see how the band sound evolves.    If you are looking for something along the lines of Dark Funeral, 1349 or Belphegor then this might be right up your alley.
