Tribe of Pazuzu
Blasphemous Prophecies

Tribe of Pazuzu is a new international supergroup of sorts. Formed by bassist/vocalist Nick Sagias who was in Soulstorm and Overthrow back in the day as well as a quick stint in Pestilence in 1990.

However, he is joined by some inarguably bigger names on this project’s debut, namely Flo Mournier of Cryptopsy fame on drums and a few guests in Jorgen Sandstrom (ex Grave, The Project Hate), Luc Lemay (Gorguts) and Christian Donaldson of Cryptopsy (who also mixed and mastered the effort). At one point Incantation’s John McEntee was involved in the project’s past releases but doesn’t appear on this record.

So, what is the end result? Well, a pretty solid record of blasting, twisty Morbid Angel-y (the main riff of “Invocation of the Ancients” could have been pulled straight from Gateways to Annihilation) 90s Pestilence-y styled blackened death or deathened black metal that isn’t a game changer by any means, but certainly delivers the goods considering the line-up and guests involved.

The 9 expectedly blasphemous songs blaze and churn in a deft 29 minutes, certainly not out welcoming their stay and lead guitarist Randy Harris delivers lots of Trey Azagthoth-styled solos throughout. The production is crisp and modern, but also has a nice old school Flordian sheen to it.

Tracks like opener “We Serve Under No God”, “Blasphemous Prophecies”, “The Trial and Prosecution of the Scorned Prophet” and “Pazuzu Incarnate” all deliver ample balances of ferocious 90 styled blasts and a few brief militant marches, though certainly, the focus is on a speedier squealing delivery.

In all a solid debut album from a few guys that know what they are doing and don’t fuck about outside of their genres and go straight for the throat with what they do well.

I read somewhere that the whammy bar could be listed as a band member. Is that true?
