I’m not sure how one should adjust their mindset when talking about the twenty-something year old Skitzo. In a way, they seem to be a tribute band in general, praising the art that is known as heavy metal by copying big shot names like Slayer (“Angel’s Blood” – Hmm, I wonder what Slayer songs that might mix together) but on the other hand they seem like a bad humor band that tries to be GWAR and Green Jelly without coming close to anything what those two bands have made. Especially GWAR pounds Skitzo’s ass so hard in every possible thing that it’s not even funny. Well, yes it is actually.
There’s not much to say about Hellavator Musick. I guess the album passes as background music for your Heavy Metal 3000 beer drinking grillin’ steak backyard fests. Or perhaps not as background music but a drinking game where the players must spot the obvious connections to metal classics’n’clichés. Who will spot the Iron Maiden melodies? How many points will he get? How drunk will everyone be? Who cares?!
Seriously speaking. If you want to spend your hard earned cash on something actually worth a while, buy some other album that might contain a bit more consistency and actual content. After the initial listen, this 31 minute album fails to stick in anyone’s mind and disappears into the limbo known as ‘whatever’. It’s kind of sad really – after all, there’s at least a bit of talent lying underneath and the guys could probably pull out a decent old school thrash album if they wanted to. I’m almost tempted to take the role of an adult and scream “Be serious for once!”.
