I got this brutal little nugget in my email and wasn’t exactly sure what the hell I was in for. Judging a book by the cover isn’t always trustworthy in a literary sense, but with Metal you can usually gauge what your experience is going to be. So, by that rationale Sangus doesn’t disappoint; because this is a savage fucking album, well demo really… but still it possesses a primal attitude that I liked right away.
With it being just a three tracker I can discuss each track individually and not have to be like, these handful of tracks are brilliant and the rest are shit, have a nice day. So let’s start with opener “Bone Collector” which charges in with an Extreme Noise Terror feel, particularly from the Holocaust in Your Head days before a VERY Metal solo that blasts off into their more comfortable Black/Thrash sensibilities. “Bone Collector” has it’s share of twists and turns that forms the perfect center piece for the album, starting off slowly and building into a blasting monster before slowing down and becoming this weird progressive workout that defies understanding. Closer “Si Brucera” is just full speed ahead, literally. It’s this track that is a little dodgy, I guess with a chorus of “seig heil, Satan!” there could be just a tad bit of tongue in cheek here but without any sort of a bio to go on, the bands’ politics and even line-up are a bit of a mystery.
This is a production level demo, so it has that raw feeling to it that brings to mind Horna, Absurd and Behexen. It will be interesting to see what these guys do next, because there is talent here, not just dudes banging on their instruments for the hell of it. All in all a good start though, worth looking out for.
