Parental Warning: Explicit Language. You’ve been warned. You couldn’t possible come up with an album that is better described as “death metal punk.” Punk is the operative word, both in terms of Zach Rose’s (Nunslaugher, Crucified Mortals) snotty, fuck-it-all vocal enunciations, and the short, stripped down arrangements, which also share similarities with Nunslaugher’s primitivism. More than anything else though, Worship Destruction is 15 minutes of pure nastiness and complete disdain for humanity. Translation: punk fucking rock before it was raped by gangs of wannabes in malls all across America. Quite honestly, if you’re a death metal fan with distaste for old school, nihilistic punk, then this one probably won’t float your dinghy.

I’m talking about the punk of Black Flag, the Germs, and Fear; uncompromising and filled with rage, the kind of stuff that attached itself immediately to pissed off, confused host organisms called teenagers. Every second is lyrically to the point and musically the equivalent of a nose-busting punch to the face. Exhibit A: “Anguish” with its Damaged (Black Flag) vibe and lyrics like “I hate you; you’re full of shit.” It doesn’t get much more direct. Then there is “Throne of Sluts,” which is possessed of a kind of Usurper march (perhaps only to these ears) within the death/punk construct and deliciously foul lyrics pertaining to “the land of fucking sluts.” You don’t want to know; I’m not even sure I do. Ending with “Fuck You” is so poetic it damn near brings tears to my eyes, which may have as much to do with the (early) Suicidal Tendencies/Germs/Fear blow just delivered to an area equidistant from each eyeball.

Appropriately enough, Worship Destruction is a vinyl-only version of the 2008 demo of the same name. Some of you will “get it” and some of you can go engage in intercourse with yourself. The message sent couldn’t be clearer: Death fucking metal fucking punk and fuck you too. Deal with it.
