Murder Made God
Endless Return

Greece’s Murder Made God have been on my radar since their 2013 Brutal Bands Release Irreverence. If you are not familiar with the style of death metal Murder Made God play I would describe as quite percussively rhythmic and groovy.  Murder Made God’s 2019 effort Endless Return is no exception.  Kicking things off with “Alive”, MMG start off with a simplistic clean intro before the absolute riff assault begins, holy smokes! It sounds like these guys have gone from seven string guitars up to eight string guitars.  The best way to describe “Alive” to me would be to say picture Hate Eternal with eight strings.  There a bit of similar riff cadence between both bands.

“World Defect” is probably one of the best songs on the album. It reminds me a lot of Decapitated’s “Day 69” especially with the way the intro of the song builds. The picking rhythms are world class and from track to track this is displayed throughout the album.   Murder Made God are a death metal band that have made the switch from seven to Eight String guitars.  What I love about the way they use them throughout the album is that every song does not necessarily have riffs riding the lowest string.  “Darkness Thy Gift” is a prime example of this and is another fantastic track on the record.  Tolis, the drummer gives one of the sickest performances behind the kit I have heard this year.

Overall, I am a bit shell shocked from head banging to this. This 2019 album kind of upper cut my ears the same way that 2018’s Abysmal Torment’s The Misanthrope did. Unbelievably fast, technical and low tuned. I really like the overall tempo and layout of Endless Return.  The album flows incredibly with incredible intensity up through the sixth track “Cognitive Dissonance”.  Through the album Dennis provides excellent clean breaks which adds a bit of soothing contrast to all of the brutal tech death. Having been around for eight years Murder Made God are one of the most vicious bands on the Unique Leader Roster and have released a fantastic Third album.  As they seem to do every year Unique Leader has found another amazing release of an album.  Both thumbs way up for this.

Their last album was incredible and made my year end list. Can’t wait to hear this one.
