Hailing from Minnesota, Lungs are a sludgy, down tempo, post rock/doom band that would fit nicely on Halo of Flies Records, next to a band like Northless , even more so considering their vinyl based output here.
This self titled 10″ release consists of two songs, the 7 minute “The Pith” and the 8 minute ‘The Sermon on the Plain”, and while its hard to really sink your teeth into 15 minutes of music, there’s enough on this 10″ release to gauge that Lungs are more than competent at their chosen mid western hued form of crusty sludge music.
“The Pith” starts with moody acoustics and a delicate build before a rough and tumble, down tuned rumble saunters into view accompanied by gruff vocals and a menacing guitar tone. The acoustics return in the middle of the song this time with some psychotic whispers and groans (and the fitting crackle of the vinyl), before exploding again to end the song with a post rock shimmer and massive groove.
“The Sermon on the Plain ” is a slow burner with a nice variety of tones and hues that cover introspective bluesy moments, atonal lurches, epic peak and monstrous lumbering riffs. Its the better of the two tracks on this short but worthwhile release, and I’ll definitely be on the look out for future, hopefully longer longer releases from this guys in the future.

Gotta check it out.
