Goldenpyre
In Eminent Disgrace

Cut from the same moldy, dank doom/death cloth as Ciande and Desecresy, Portugal’s Goldenpyre deliver a fine debut of simple, riff based chugging , slightly ritualistic doom/death  metal that hints at finer things to come.

Not as nauseating or atonal as country mates The Ominous Circle, Goldenpyre have a distinct old school Chicago/Midwest, steady, death metal pace mixed with a dry British death metal guitar tone (Benediction). It’s a pretty stripped down, no frills, 36 minute affair, but it deliver s 8 songs of pure riffery and a very impressively hefty rhythm section.

The dense, measured songs rarely stray from a doomy chug or slightly uptempo trundle, so those looking for some speed or blasts should go elsewhere. From “Collapse of Empirical Foundations” to “Deluge of Fire” the 8 tracks lumber and lop e with a lethargic, but precise, pummeling gait. Look to the the likes of “Suffocation”  and neck napping march of “Last Paroxysm” for the album’s highlights, but to be honest its  a pretty

A few moments of urgency pop up here and there (“A Crown for Decadence”, “Meant to Suffer”, “Yob Sabbaoth”) But it never comes across as Jungle Rot or Humiliation banal (though enjoyable) simplicity for simplicity or stylistic sake, but rather an precise , almost cult like, automaton focus and dedication to their pacing. Again, look to Desecresy, Coffins or maybe Hooded Menace for a solid comparison.

Nice one Erik! Really digging what I’m hearing. I’m still a total sucker for DM with that real rotten, detuned groove.

Getting some Jungle Rot “Dead and Buried” vibes here (love that one still to this day), Coffins and Hooded Menace as well. Touch of Warcrab too, though those guys are pretty unbeatable for me in what they do. I’ll pick this up for sure.
