Hailing from AustraliaGaped is 1 man death metal project, from Ryan Huthnance, & is some killer death metal. He was formerly in Mortal Sin and my forthcoming interview with him will delve into how he does all the instruments, etc…
The Murderous Inception is a 6 song ep that all lovers of Chris Barnes era Cannibal Corpse should add to their collection. “Let the Cutting Begin” starts off with some movie intro, I think, with a chick talking about wanting to be dismembered…umm ok, before going into a real interesting and original guitar riff. The drum sound is excellent and the production is beefy with the guitar tone having a real thick and heavy sound. The tune is a killer groove based number with a nice guitar solo in there. Song goes into a vintage old school double pounding Cannibal Corpse beat with a heavy bottom end groove part that will topple your city block, easily. “Skin Suit”, goes perfect with the ep cover and the tune begins with a nice brutal blast beat. The cover of “Stripped, Raped and Strangled”, from Cannibal Corpse is one of the best cover songs I’ve heard. Killer.
The booklet is nicely designed with pics and lyrics. The ep strays away from blast beats, by and large; still brutal in nature, but concentrating on more mid paced death metal that has an early 90’s flair to it. I cannot wait for a debut album from Gaped, since The Murderous Inception is such a strong start. This is very well played death metal.
