Fupa Goddess
Fuckyourface

I initially decided to take this review strictly based on the album title, Fuckyourface.  I could not stop laughing when I saw this debut album title from Fupa Goddess.  A goregrind/death metal band spread out in the Carolinas/Virginia.

I dare you to go to metal-archives.com to type the band name in.  Watch that scroll bar get really small and scroll down to see the plethora of ep’s/singles/splits this band has done.  There are like 150+ listed items – it’s mind-numbing.  The band also throws in a lot of sick humor with song titles on this album, such as “Oh Dammit Barb” and “This Is Cheese Sauce”.

With 11 songs in 19 minutes these 3 hooligans: Harry on drums/guitar/ bass/backing vox, Aaron on guitars/bass/backing vox, and Tim as the vocalist and dropping (stool) samples….well this is the perfect amount of time for this release.  Read on to find out why.

“As A Friend” starts things off with a hysterical show clip opening then right into the goregrind.  I think there is a vocoder/pitch shifter used like Carcass used on their debut album.  Unsure if the drums are a drum machine – perhaps, I think.  The bass guitar is a wall of distorted noise.  Take the distorted bass of bands like Napalm Death, Mortician, Repulsion, and Fluids mix them in a blender, then make it more distorted and crank up the volume.  It’s so distorted it muffles a lot of what is going on.  The song has heavy parts, but it’s so distorted it’s nuts!

“Clip Em Up High” is next, with another funny opening clip, and then it goes right into the goregrind.  There is a nice groove stomp early on that is interesting, then right into the grind.  Fuggehtabout it – if you’re thinking you can pick out any semblance of a verb, adjective, noun or word for that matter.  The vocals are indecipherable.

“I Got My Shoes Tied and I’m Ready for Burritos” is maybe the funniest song title in years and the opening segment does not disappoint, right before the goregrind blasting madness.  Some isolated bass guitar moments are cool, but when mixed in with the other instruments and vocals literally this is a wall of noise.  I’ll label the band NoiseGrind.  There are homages to Mortician on this track with some of the galloping sections, which are then ruined with the faster paced stuff and overall noise element contained within.

“This Is Cheese Sauce” has a funny opening clip and the galloping moments early on are not too shabby.  This is the best song on this short album since there is no blasting and the galloping beat is for the duration.

Fuckyourface is not an album that is my cup of tea and I do like a wide variety of every extreme genre on the planet.  However, Fupa Goddess’ music is so distorted and noisy any semblance of anything potentially enjoyable to listen to is more grating on the senses than it is listenable.  I love the funny clips they include on the songs, but once the music hits..oofa.  Anyway If you want some noisy distorted shit to listen to check this out.
