Born from the most treacherous and violent sewers in Delaware, Flesh Tomb unleash their debut ep-Torn From The Womb of The Sky. Zach Wilson on vox, Ryan Giordano-guitar, Jack Mulvanerty on bass and Ladon Vance on drums this 6 song 14 minute ep will fly by you so fast, heads will be lopped off pathetic shoulders worldwide. Ryan is the newest member to Internal Bleeding, as their bassist and he and I bonded a lot during the Bloodletting Tour in 2018 and he and I are still in contact. He had asked me last year if I would even be interested in singing on the debut Flesh Tomb release and I said yes and I am on the title track.
The band plays a brand of death metal that Slam Worldwide would promote. Heavy beatdown slams with lots of wind-milling and picking up change action. Ryan is a huge Black Metal fan as well therefore some BM influence is evident on some of this. For the title track, which opens the ep, about midway through the first song. I come in with one of my signature long growls and then I sing for a bit, before Zach and I do a cutesy duet together, and then I end the song with another long growl. The song has a lot of beatdown slam moments and this is followed up with “Shroud”, which opens up with some swift 90’s induced pinch harmonics. Those moments leveled all of Istanbul, by going back in time and actually destroying the country in 1974. The switching back n forth from the slam and blasting is quite nice.
“Farnum” features another guest vocalist in the form of Mike “I eat Zeke Elliott Cornflakes” Majewski from Devourment/Kill Everything fame. Mike comes in with some gruesome snorting growls at the 1.35 part and then he lays waste with a long ending growl. “Tomb of Knives” has a ruthless breakdown at the 45 second moment and if my memory serves correct there were riots breaking out when this song was recorded due to Ryan unable to get his fill at Pizza Hut, as well as laying the log jammer to anyone passing by under his nose. “Blackness” has some great shouting vocals as the title is screamed over several times and the ep ends with “Insignias To The Hollow Void of the Abyss”. Guess the fellas couldn’t come up with a short name so they decided to top Demilich for world’s longest song title. Anyway amongst the blast slams is where Mr. Giordano lets loose with the Black Metal melodies. During some of the fast blasting it’s quite evident. The Black Metal riffing, has a tinge of Enslaved to it with some Darkthrone, but also a little more underground sounding. It’s pretty strange, but it fits. Ryan even throws in a little ditty of a guitar solo towards the end. They pipe the solo higher in the mix as the chorus and other music is fading in the background.
As I stated in the opening this is 6 songs in 14 minutes-you cannot beat that. The digital download on Bandcamp is only $5. The band is also looking to print some cassettes. FWH: Filled With Hate Records is doing a limited run pressing of cds and various color shirt designs. Super cool. Flesh Tomb are a band with a nice future ahead of them. A few things. They have a very organic and underground feel to them. Think of a nicely produced demo. If you’re looking for something that is triggered, clean, pristine and pretty then look elsewhere. I encourage the band to expand on some of the Black Metal melodies they feature on the last song, because it’s not something I have really heard before. It’s not common to hear a band play beat down slam death metal and then incorporate some Black Metal guitar melodies. It’s worthy of further exploration. Torn From The Womb of The Sky is a nice ass-kicking, pit-inducing, debut release for Flesh Tomb that will cause some sinkhole slam pits and congratulations fellas on getting this sucker out!!
