Falsifier
Life In Death EP

I’m not familiar with Ontario’s Falsifier, not being hugely connected to the down tempo/beatdown scene, but seeing these guys compared to Black Tongue and The Acacia Strain piqued my interest and the fact this EP is a free download from Artery Recordings  (to celebrate singing with the label) only made it more appealing. And I’m always looking for something heavy and punishing , despite the genre’s bad rap right now. And boy is the this heavy and punishing. Ridiculously so.

Don’t get me wrong, if you hate modern deathcore or the slow painful chugs of its down-tempo cousin, you will hate this. But jesus fucking christ is this some heavy , heavy stuff. In fact, arguably one I’ve the heaviest things I have heard in a long time, and I listen to a lot of deathcore. But Not since Black Tongue‘s Born Hanged-Falsifier material have I been this shaken to my core. Yes, pun fully intended.

Listen, if you hate the style there’s is nothing about this review that is going to change your mind. It’s simple, heavy and completely derivative. There’s sloooooow, open note chugs, hardcore growls and some super deep inhaled vocals, (no scream though), a few blasts. There are no synths or clean vocals, like say the recent Pathways EP, but these guys are in the same ball park for sheer heft. Even some samples of various interviews with serial killers/murderers (I think), don’t keep this from being completely cliched, but fuck me, it just destroys.

And christ it makes me want to punch things. I mean “I am Death” is flat out dangerous for me to listen to me driving , as I tend to go all Queenzflip when it comes on and my daughter is starting to get questions about her bruises, even if it’s the same riff, played slower and slooooower and sloooooooower as the song goes on. It might have replaced The Acacia Strain‘s “The Mouth of the River” for my new go nuts song. The same can be said for the other 4 songs on the EP as “Malevolent”, “Human Filth” (3;20 in;  just………holy shit) , ” Burial Grounds” and “Life In Death” all pretty much make me go hulk on anyone and anything around me.

And no one likes me when I’m angry…..ask my daughter.
