Erebus Enthroned
Temple Under Hell

Australia is a scary fucking place. Not only does the country have some of the most dangerous animals on the planet, but it also is home to some really vicious Black Metal ( Bestial Warlust and Destroyer 666 to name just a couple), Erebus Enthroned could very well have moved into that company with Temple Under Hell, their second for Séance.

This is a pretty ambitious release and it shows with ten minute opener “Sorathic Pentecost“, which rises on a riff that brings to mind Disiplin’s Anti-Life album before the track kicks in for a ride that boils with a hellfire that would make Norway proud. I say that because this is frosty Black Metal, not what you would expect from the more warlike, primitive Black Metal of the aforementioned country mates. No, this is more of a Tsjuder or Kvlt ov Azazel style that is raw enough to keep the purists happy, but with enough polish to not sound like it was recorded on a four track in a basement. Which isn’t always a bad thing, to be sure. For the most part this is full speed ahead, although there is a really killer break in the “Crucible of Vitriol” that takes it’s time before the track erupts again.

Having not heard their previous Night’s Black Angel, I really can’t say if they have improved or stayed the same, but the band that is here is certainly tight as they need to be. One thing I must point out is that there are absolutely no solos on this album at all, they are missed too, because without them the songs don’t have any real time to breathe, since it’s mostly a blast fest there isn’t any real room for them, but one or two might have been nice just to keep things interesting. Still, I like it for what it is, which is a no frills Black Metal album that doesn’t try and reinvent anything, just goes for the throat. If that’s how you like your Metal then by all means pick this up.
