Dr. Acula
Below Me

Great, another group of kids playing off the wall spazzy, crumbly, squealy deathcore. Except this lot are named after a Mitch Hedberg joke, have lots of samples (including Dane Cook and Anchorman), goofy song titles and quirky synths and an oh so quirky sense of humor. And somehow they’ve done this for 3 fucking albums now.

Just look at that cover-that about sums up the music. Fucking kill me.

If the threat of Dane Cook samples didn’t put you off, Below Me will greet you with 15 forgetful tracks of gimmick filled, ‘modern’ grind core that makes me fucking cringe and wonder how bands like this get record deals. Granted, back when The Number 12 Looks Like You first graced my ears, I was more open to this kind of metal for ADD riddled kids and scenesters, but like Dane Cook, it fucking annoys the shit out of me now. The formula is simple and one the likes of The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Heavy Heavy Low Low, Destroyer Destroyer, Arsonists Get All The Girls and other such stupidly named acts have perfected and marketed for the pimply Hot Topic masses; Screams, growls and some sniveling hardcore/punk shouts grace the random chaotic blast beats, scattershot breakdowns, samples, synths and excuses for songs and the end result is an album that makes me grit my teeth in my ripe old age.

Admittedly, some bands like say The Plasmarifle, and See You Next Tuesday I enjoy (now at least), I can tolerate, but that’s because they don’t try to force college humor and “look how nutty and off the wall we are!” elements into their bro-core fueled spats aimed at wiggers and trend hopping kids looking for the next big breakdown. Here though only closer “Calling All Creeps” is even remotely close to enjoying as the like of “Beer Pong Massacre”, “Shocker on Shock Street” and “The Cuckoo Clock of Doom” make me literally hate an entire generation and in the words of Dane Cook, the sounds alone makes me want to punch babies.

Now, where’s that new Severed Savior album?

Emo girls watching too many movies and bad stand-up comedians thinking they can inject the funny to their awful sound. Like, why not?

    Wretched filth.

I bet they have videos that kill music like the two you posted, Erik! Hahahahaha.

I still say that Enslaved is better.

Agoraphobic Nosebleed set the standard for this stuff, but too many untalented bands have decided to ride the coattails of those who came before who actually had talent.

Comedy and music can work together. I just don’t hear it here.

9 of the 15 tracks on this cd were rerecorded from their previous cd so i dont consider this a “new” cd. they got a new lead vocalist and I think he’s terrible. i enjoyed their last cd and this one just takes a huge shit on it.

Why does everyone hate this album? Its the one grindcore album I can enjoy without retarded blastbeats and it actually has enjoyable sound to it instead of obscure switchups. Take into consideration that this wasn’t a serious band so begin with, enjoy it or leave it -.-
