Dissident Clone’s State of Dysphoria EP makes for an entertaining albeit quick listen at a combined running time of almost eleven minutes. This Minnesota based two-piece combines a lot of different elements from death/grind/groove/crust and I think those are just the main ones that I can hear.
The opening track “Waiting to Collapse” creates an auditorial feeling whilst remaining minimal in the amount of total instrumentation and recording going on in this demo. There is definitely no shortage of blast beats as Chad Brunsell.
Dissident Clone are definitely pushing away from more is better. Pat Morris vocals are gruff and completely with pronounced angst and delivery throughout State of Dysphoria.
“Eye of the Wound” is probably my favorite track on State of Dysphoria if one could possibly imagine a mix of Immolation with Dying fetus or Misery Index. This song definitely has that type of feel.
Dissident Clone is a group to keep an eye especially in regards to their production value. I do not believe this is a group that needs a huge production to sound brutal and I think they have reached their objective with this EP.
Mosh to this minimal effort but maximum aggression.
