Keeping with the album titles starting with the letter “I”, German death/thrash masters Dew-Scented are back with their seventh studio effort, Incinerate. Not much has changed – their still heavy as a ton of bricks and play fast, blistering thrash.
As with any good death/thrash band, Dew-Scented slam down on the accelerator from the get-go and don’t let up until the end. “That’s Why I Despise You” and “Retain the Scars” are all around ass kickers, the latter of which features a guest vocal appearance by Kreator main man and thrash icon Mille Petrozza. There’s some killer riffing to be heard in “Final Warning” and “Aftermath”, and while the album is peppered with Slayer-ish solos, the ones found in “Vanish Away”, “The Fraud”, and “Perdition For All” are particularly eye-popping. You can even hear a bit of groove styled riffing in the also ass kicking “Into the Arms of Misery”.
The biggest fault of Dew-Scented and Incinerate, as with the bulk of other similar releases, is the songs tend to be same-y and bleed together, which can lead to an exhausting listen if you’re not a big fan of the genre, especially when there’s 11 tracks (minus the intro and outro) to get through. Though I must say this is probably the bands best offering yet and it has a nice, meaty but not over done production. Recommended for fans of the genre.
