Coldworker have provided us with their second album and what a revelation. I confess I didn’t really listen to the first one that much so I can’t say that much for their progress since then but Rotting Paradise has blown my mind.
Coldworker remind me of an amalgam of The Forsaken and Hate Plow, due to the combination of melodic death metal and all out pummeling. The drums are a hammerfest of course, courtesy of Nasum’s Anders Jakobson. This is not all blasting by any stretch, although on the whole this is a very fast record. With 12 songs in only 39 minutes there is no time to mess around.
Dan Swano’s mix is on the money as nothing gets lost in this maelstrom, a difficult task no doubt. The guitars are out of control yet surgically precise at the same time. This album is so fast that it almost seems chaotic but upon further listening you realize that this is almost mechanized perfection. There is nothing new here to be honest, but this is so well done that I really don’t care. If you want a really fast headstomping album to complement a fit of road rage you couldn’t do much better than this. Now get in, fire up the stereo, nuns don’t run themselves over you know.
