Chelsea Grin
Chelsea Grin EP

Utah’s Chelsea Grin are the US equivalent of Bring Me the Horizon – visually I want to punch repeatedly them in the genitals and ensure they never breed- but musically they aren’t actually too bad and are one of the heavier deathcore bands I’ve heard.

If you recently enjoyed the likes of Oceano, then this 6 track EP is for you; with an exaggerated sense of heft and mid paced lurch occasionally broken up by a few rather piecemeal blast beats, Chelsea Grin are at their best when delivering some utterly pummeling, open note breakdown with deeper than thou growls. The likes of “Crewcabanger” (complete with orchestral ending), “Anathema of the Sick”, “Disgrace”, “Lifeless”” and bonus track “Recreant” are ridiculously heavy, sheer heft if you can get past the shrieked higher screams and the faux attempts and melodies and blast beats, which come across as a slightly sloppy afterthought.

Fans of Emmure, Liferuiner, Rose Funeral, Oceano and such will lap this up, and deservedly so – as at times it’s just downright sick, as the breakdowns are truly devastating, but there is little else and they need to flesh out everything else to be more of a rounded act to compete with some of their peers.

BTW- the cover; that is what a Chelsea/Glasgow Grin is.

This band is fucking amazing. I have seen them live and though their break downs aren’t too great, their guitarist really does know what he is doing. This was the best EP I’ve ever heard. This is a shitty review.
