In a previous review that I did for the recent Lux Ferre release (I will wait a minute, while you go read that review) I mentioned when listening to metal, for the most part, I look for that energy, the aggression, something that will get the head banging and just make me put the pedal to the metal. So I will say without any hesitation, that with this release from Portland Oregon’s, Cemetery Lust, they cover the aforementioned criteria in spades.
From the moment you press play it is all energy and aggression. With song titles like “Perverted Aggressor”, “Resurrected Whore” and “Sexual Maniac”, you know it’s not background music to be played at your local Applebee’s. They call their music Rape Thrash, so that’s another indicator that it’s not all sunshine and flowers. Early Sodom, Pleasure to Kill era Kreator, a bit of early Slayer come to mind on first listens and it just rips on thru for just a tad shy of 30 mins. Which is great, come in for the kill, beat you senseless and leave you gasping at the end. It is just pure unadulterated thrashing fun. I honestly don’t think the members set out to break boundaries or to deliver a deep social commentary.
Their message? Headbang, air-guitar, thrash about your room to your heart’s content. “Demonic Dementia” is a perfect song for this exact moment. So when listening to and or buying this, you have to know what you like and know what you are getting into and just take it as such. Production is sufficient and with a slight old-school feel. Guitar has that fuzz and drums pummel you with its simple retro feel. No reason for any indepth track by track synopsis or a analysis of the guitar tone and drum mic’s used to record this, no, just get it, put in your CD player, down a brew (Portland has plenty of them!) and just rage.
I’n not sure if there is any difference between this and the 2012 Headsplit Records version, but either way, fans of Gehennah, NecroMessiah, alcohol and thrash porn, look no further.
