What do you get when you mix one of the UK’s most respected, loved and best hardcore vocalists with a group of skilful but more importantly hungry young musicians? Answer: A musical vortex looking to suck the skin off your face.
Bun Dem Out have been doing time in the underground London scene for a while now and have been turning heads (as well as breaking many) with their ferocious live shows. Shit, their demo was so good that German label Filled With Hate (now considered to be a major in the beatdown hardcore circles) wanted a piece of the action. To their credit, Bun Dem Out stuck to who they know and who they trust, and released their debut MCD on London’s Rucktion records.
Taking the roots of their local scene as their basis, Bun Dem Out mix up the rawness of London Style Beatdown hardcore (Knuckledust, Ninebar, 50 Caliber) then weld it with sweet European styled scything riffs (prime Arkangel, and a little latter day Kickback) and then cap it off with Pierre’s rabid vocals. War is openly declared on ‘An Introduction,” now I love beatdown intros and this is one of the best I’ve heard in a long time. For the duration the formula remains rigidly set to keeping the beatdowns frequent but the band do mix things up making the impact of those beats heavy when they are bought in.
A slew of guest vocalists take part, old and new, the oldies including Nick from Diction and former 50 Caliber vocalist Terry whilst the new is represented by Nathan from the youngsters Prowler thus demonstrating how tightly knit and intertwined the London Hardcore scene is.
This is a very strong release by a band that is going places and with youth on their side, one can duly expect Bun Dem Out to be wrecking eardrums for a very, very long time.
