Bestial Mockery
Evoke The Desecrator

Bestial Mockery is, of course, obsessed with chainsaws, and aside from that gimmick offer little to distinguish themselves. That being said, this album is surprisingly good. The nostalgia factor is high, bringing the listener back to the mid 80’s heyday of thrash when Slayer ruled. Slayer is a very obvious influence and the guitar work, on “Goat’s Feast” for example, is well played. They actually do a great job on guitars throughout. It is hard to write a serious review for a band that has such a lighthearted take on music, with such lines as “what are you waiting for saw me up” and the chainsaw antics. The lyrics are kind of campy, but it fits the band. The best lyrics are “Soulburn” which also features a group chorus. The printed lyrics are not always exactly what he screams, he skips words occasionally or adds some in. “Marching for Hell” demonstrates Master Motorsag’s range in vocal delivery and is a good example of their musical style.

One disappointment the the very short album length, 10 very short songs for a total of about half an hour. Finding an album too short is a good sign that you enjoyed it. Of the 10 songs, a couple are demo songs re-recorded. My favorite songs are “Necromantic Ritual Desecration” for, believe it or not, it’s subtlety. A well crafted song structure, equaled in “Goat’s Feast” and surpassed by the title track. “Evoke The Desecrator” is structurally their most ambitious and guaranteed to be the highlight of the live set.
