Teeth of the Divine 2015’s STAFF PICKS

2015. Another, goddamn, year over already. And how’d it end? With a major downer with Lemmy going somewhere else. Who do we have left? Ozzy? Rob? Alice? Anyone else? Damn. It wasn’t all that bad of a year though, even if the world seemed to become even crazier than 2014 — if Fox News is to be believed. Plenty of good music got released and what we’ve got here is a top list of metal related stuff that Teeth of the Divine’s staff handpicked themselves. Unlike most of our corporate overlords, we don’t outsource our opinions, enslave some poor bastards and build safety nets around them just in case they decide to call it quits. Actually, that’s not true. We’re not a hive mind, we enslave people to write for us but we sure as hell aren’t spending any of our huge advertising revenue to keep them alive. Ha! Anyway, browse around and find some worthy stuff you might have missed!

Will “BoneS’ Lee

Top 10 for 2015 (in no particular order)

SchammaschContradiction. Drop dead amazing in sound, atmosphere, production and at 2 CD’s for this release of dark, atmospheric metal, what more could you ask for?
MardukFrontschwein. Nothing to say but another stellar release from this black metal powerhouse.
SanctuaryThe Year the Sun Died. The first steps in the return to greatness. Almost makes up for the loss of Nevermore.
TsjuderAntiliv. Just adding to their growing formidable repertoire.
MelecheshEnki. Mesopotamian thrashing goodness.
Lost SoulAtlantis. Loved them since Chaostream and this is death metal with the tech done just right.
OverkillWhite Devil Armory. They just keep adding the bullets to the belt. Age has no boundaries.
Shape of DespairMonotony Fields. Dark, heavy as hell, expressive and beautiful but so uplifting at the same time.
(tie) NettlecarrierBlack Coffin Rites & DjevelSaa Raa Og Kald. Almost the same band but different aspects of the darkened cold filth of the early days.
Nile That Which Should Not be Unearthed. Egyptian lore gods return!

Surprises of 2015
Paradise Lost – The Plague Within Not that they were ever truly “lost” (sorry) but a welcome return to form.

Honorable Mentions
Ibex Angel Order, Degial, Cirith Gorgor, Castrator, Invocation Spells, Infernal War, Swallow the Sun

Guilty Pleasures of 2015
Gruesome, Cemetery Lust

Still on the Fence for 2015
Exodus – Blood In, Blood Out .I may be one of the few who missed/liked Rob Dukes in Exodus, I love the sound and the power of the band, but Zetro….I gotta get used to again.

Mayhem – Esoteric Warfare .Obviously this is Mayhem! Attila is singing. Classic stuff, right?….but why do I have a nagging feeling when listening to this?

Don’t Understand for 2015
Ghost, All That Remains

I am a bit surprised (and saddened) to see the Sickening Horror mentioned only once, since this seemed to be one of the very few sites that actually reviewed it, and it got a pretty positive review at that.

Definitely some stuff I missed on these lists though so I will have to start digging through them.

I reviewed it here but didn’t submit a top ten due to extremely part-time status. But it was one of the few metal records I liked last year.
