State of the Union Address #1
Running a heavy metal site isn’t hard. Running a good heavy metal site is. Being a Finn, I’ve got a hard time admitting the facts, but Teeth of the Divine is, in my opinion, a pretty good heavy metal site. But I’m not content. It could be better.
We’re in the process of penning down various tweaks and adjustments to the site. Due to the miraculous ways of life, and the fact that it often cockblocks you from doing what you ought to do, I can’t give you an ETA, but improvements shouldn’t be too far off in the future. Granted, as we grow older, time moves faster and the changes might see the light of the day on my deathbed. But know this: They’re coming.
Tinkering with the site fills a masochistic void and keeps me away from the streets, from gangbanging and slinging. It’s probably a similar escape to the rest of the writers, as none of us is getting rich by doing this. Whilst there is a certain personal satisfaction involved in all of this, the fact remains that the site is intended to be used, to be read, to be interacted with.
There’s currently a giveaway going on, where you’ve got the chance to run with four brutal death metal records, courtesy of Dark Descent Records. Trying to grab free shit is always cool, but the giveaway presents an excellent chance for You, the reader, to send us feedback. What’s bugging you about the site, what would improve your experience, what makes you come back or shake your head in shame? There’s been some great suggestions already – some new, some which we had already thought about.
A few changes you might have already seen, as we’ve added a few writers in our ranks (say hi to Donald Kyle, Kate Wilcox and Ian Grey) to tackle the ever-growing flood of new music. Flood so big, that sometimes we’re forced to cover great, old albums that we missed the first time. In that light, there’s always room for new, gifted writers. We can’t offer any money for your time, but you get to hear stuff before it’s out or even leaked. And music’s what it’s all about, right? At least to us it is.
Whilst Teeth of the Divine might be ‘good’, that’s simply not enough. Thus, head over to the giveaway page and let us know what’s up, or feel free to contact us directly at editors [at] teethofthedivine.com
How do you become a reviewer for this site? I’m going to school for music and love to write reviews. I use to have a blog for reviews awhile back as well. If need another writer let me know. It would be epic to write for this site.
on Aug 12th, 2010 at 15:36Write a couple of sample reviews and then pm Apollyon or Erik Thomas on the forums. They’ll post them in the writers’ lounge for the staff to look at and we’ll take it from there. We have more than enough content to be covered right now.
