The rest of the world got this disc late 2009, those of us in North America had to wait till January 26. The limited edition contains a bonus DVD recorded Live at Peace & Love -festival on June 28, 2008 in Borlänge, Sweden. This is almost reason enough to get this album. If ever there was a band that demanded to be seen live on stage to fully appreciate it is Dark Funeral. I’ve been a fan since forever yet it was experiencing the 1997 live show that solidified their power in my mind. Ever since I have viewed each new studio album, no matter how ‘mediocre’, ‘redundant’, or ‘uninspired’ you wish to label it as a new excuse for them to tour.
With that in mind it is with great satisfaction I sit here listening to the new album, Angelus Exuro pro Eternus, enjoying it for its intrinsic value, for not only is it a harbinger of tours to come, it is a slab of high quality destined to live on live on stage well into the future. Emperor Magus Caligula can add another jewel to his iron crown. His master’s will is once again realized, let the masses bow before his power, his vassals deliver his message through nine black hymns. Burn the fields behind the fleeing christians, kill, kill, maim, destroy, decapitate, decimate, eradicate, leave not a single sheep bleating for the second coming. The fire is upon us, embrace your fate.
This latest attack is swift and mighty, a lightning charged blitzkrieg, speed and precision carry the banner high once more. The mouth of Satan shrieks forth, never faltering, often dropping to a mighty growl. The axes pierce the air both quick and precise and more slowly and roughly lending much power to the rhythm of the advances.
A coordinated strike on Christendom has begun. The strikes that win the day are the majestic “My Funeral” and the vicious “Declaration of Hate”, with “Demons of Five” and “The End of Human Race” bringing up the rear guard.

I just can’t get into these guys. Believe me, I’ve tried. I’ve listened to pretty much everything they’ve ever done and I just find it really boring and uninteresting. At least Immortal and Marduk can come up with some interesting dynamics here and there and make songs sound different.

on Mar 23rd, 2010 at 23:36Indeed THE best DF album EVER. The production is fantastic, only I’d have liked Caligula’s vox just a tad higher in the mix. And the bonus live DVD is to die for.
