Heavy Lord
Holy Grail

Rank, damp, musty, raw Doom. From the intstrumental intro “The Holy Grail” to the end of “F.T.S.S.”, Heavy Lord is going to drown you in smoke, scum, feedback and sweat. Drawing from Stoner Doom as well as Sludge and Traditional Doom, Heavy Lord delivers the goods with force and intent.

The way the guitars blend with the bass (which I am guessing is also distorted) creates an oozing, suffocating dirge upon which the vocals float and drift along with a combo of clean and aggressive (like in “Dope Smoking Daze”). “Magician Of Black Chaos” is simply crushing in its intensity and aggression. The sounds, as well as the performances, give the impression that you’re listening to a live recording in that it’s not sonically perfect. But it is infectious. The vocals on this track remind me of Crippled Lucifer in thier shreiking abrasiveness. “Baphomet’s March” has a bit of a bouncing groove, however slow, and brings forth a bit of the band’s Stoner leanings. The eight-minute “Gods Of Doom” begins with a two-minute slow build before bringing everything crashing down on the listener’s head in a flattening riff.

Fans of Earthride, Eyehategod, the aofrementioned Crippled Lucifer, and all sorts of filthy, sticky, mezmerizing Doom Metal music should find something to enjoy in this release. There is plenty of noise, attitude and riffing to be had.
