Panzerchrist
Last Of A Kind

Panzerchrist are stalwarts. Literally, since 1995’s Demo they’ve been putting out their Blackened Death Metal beginning with Six Seconds Kill in 1996, to the utterly fantastic Room Service in 2003 they’ve steadily put out quality God Dethroned meets Bolt Thrower meets Marduk and they all have an orgy where out pops Panzerchrist.

On the eighth album Last of a Kind here in 2023 sees the band firing like a V2 rocket, detonating with the opening track “Turn the Rack” with its barked chorus and pummeling blast beats it merges into the mid-paced in disguise “My Name is Lucifer” head spinning Blackened Death Metal that only Panzerchrist can do. The cool as fuck interlude around 4.20 is a nice little break in the chaos before the universe cracks at the end with more savage blasting from Danni Jelsgaard.

The title track is one of my favorite tracks, it’s the haunting beginning and the twisting solo around 2.18. It’s also the longest on the album, a slow-boiling source of bile and vicious hate. The track sails when the blasting begins, reminding me of God Dethroned once again, especially in the delivery and pacing of the track; it hits hard as fuck effortlessly. With an album this intent on punching you, constant reader, in your fucking guts. “Sabbath of the Rat” and “Baptized in Piss” are also good signs that the 20 years between 2013’s 7th Offensive and the line-up changes that ensued have seen the band retain their status stronger than ever with Last of a Kind.

This review took awhile to write because I listened to Last of a Kind on repeat and kept trying to describe what I was hearing, also my laptop picked that time to take a shit… Anyway, I’m back to recommend this for those sick fucks that love God Dethroned, early Bolt Thrower (the first three albums), Marduk and even though I didn’t mention them; Belphegor. Welcome back, Panzerchrist!
