Krakow Poland’s Redemptor return with their fourth full length album Agonia.  I had previously reviewed the groups 2017 release Arthaneum which was one of my favorite albums of that year.

Agonia is an excellent follow up album that has a slow build to it which is worth the wait.  Opening with “Tectonic Plates” Daniel Kesler’s gorgeous guitar work returns with his own sense of dissonance and melody.  Pawel Jaroszewicz returns on drums which adds another layer of excellent complexity to their fourth full length album. “Tectonic Plates” is an excellent teaser of an opening track as the album continues to build and gain momentum.

“Potion of the Skies” opening with a bit of a low-fi feel, sticking to the same type of tempo as the opening track. You can really hear the Gojira influence in the first two tracks.  Kesler’s chord selection really is on its own planet. His lead work on this track is really well done. The gain on the amplifiers gets cranked up on the third track, “Tar”.   Redemptor’s Morbid Angel influence is incredibly on point and the guitar rakes would make Trey Azagthoth proud.   The tempo changes are well placed throughout the album and create a unique other planet like vibe.

“Further From Ideal” is one of the heaviest and more trance inducing songs on the album.   The chord choice of Kesler is really on his own level.  “Aurora” is a nice breakup from the rest of the album. The guitar sound on this instrumental is lush and epic sounding.  “Debris” continues to fit the style of “Agonia”.

Overall, this is another fantastic album.   Redemptor are one of those death metal bands I would love to see play live.   Give this one a chance if you are looking for a multi-faceted technical death metal album this is it. Enjoy.
