Overdose of Bacon
Kill to Consume EP

Back in 2018 when I was back again with Internal Bleeding and we headed up to Canada, for part of the Bloodletting Tour, I met Phil Brousseau and Nickolas Lauzon and took a picture with these young gentlemen.  They really enjoyed our set and super cool dudes.  Fast Forward to 2020, a little bit right before the Covid Pandemic erupted and these fellas contacted me and asked if I wanted to do some vocals for their band Overdose of Bacon.  Being that Bacon is one of my major food groups, I mean seriously, I mash up bacon and put it in smoothies, it was a no-brainer.

Side note-my vocals almost did not happen on this ep.  The sound engineer had closed up shop once the pandemic hit; however, since I’ve known him for years, he made an exception and allowed me to record at his studio, he wasn’t happy about it, but I did a little NY lean on him a bit and he accommodated me.  Lest anyone question – I brought cleaning wipes and wiped everything before and after recording; he was happy.  This ep was delayed, due to Covid and would have been out a year ago, but hey just like anything else, we’ve learned since March 2020, everything was affected by the pandemic.

Kill to Consume is the debut ep from Overdose of Bacon and it’s 5 songs of chest-bursting, brutal slam death metal fun.  There are many other guest vocalists on this ep as well.  “Peter” is the intro name and eventually starts and is a slam instrumental.  The drums are programmed folks – so please expect that upfront.  They’re so fast they will decapitate you from a mile away, at minimum.  This goes right into the first proper song “Artères Constipée”.  Expect gutturals and brees, from the variety of vocals.  Phil is responsible for Guitars, Bass, Drum programming, Synth, Electronics and Nickolas and JP Harvey both provide guttural vocals.  The vocal attack is pure disgusting, filth, guttural drenched sickness.

“Beat the Meat” has a nice opening slam part and once the programmed double bass comes in, the typewriter trigger will cause your body to go into an involuntary shut-down of cataclysmic proportions.  Some creative programmed drum sounds and some of the guttural vocals are meant to mimic pig snorts – so yes be prepared for that too.  “Munchies” has many vocal tones and some of the electronica aspect with the synths – it’s actually pretty neat and definitely something I’ve not heard in this style of extreme music.

I guested on the last song “Pork Fetish Obsession”.  It’s a brutal song, beginning with fast moments, synths, bass bomb drops.  I enter into the song at the 2.50 time frame.  I use my main guttural tone and then go a little higher, then bring it down some more.  I eventually go into inhale gutturals at the monster slow slam part.  I then hold out the inhale growl for super long.  I don’t know this one I might have held out for 35 seconds.  I had dubbed my vocals the virus killer, when I recorded and hot damn the guys slapped that phrase on a shirt and sent me one – one of the coolest things a band has ever given me.   Again I am honored and humbled the band asked for my vocals – Thank you.

Overdose of Bacon have crowbarred their way into the brutal slam death metal scene with Kill to Consume.  Again, expect a drum machine, the guitars are heavy and with all us guest vocalists and the main vocalists, there’s quite a lot of sounds and tones being vomited all over the place.  The addition of synths and electronica as well as some funny show clips/sound effects, as well as the ridiculous cool ep cover, makes this a fun listening experience.   The band does not take themselves too seriously and I enjoy their comedic moments, as well as the pain and brutality the band incorporates.  Check ‘em out.  Good brutal fun.

I’m not sure if an overdose of bacon is possible, but it’s something I’m willing to try. You know, for research purposes.
