Several months ago Everlasting Spew Records posted about the new Fractal Generator album Macrocosmos and posted a brand new song.  I had never heard the band before and after checking out the song immediately got their 2015 self-released debut, the outstanding Apotheosynthesis.  I was blown away by this Canadian brutal band as they combine death metal, some grind parts and experimental components which can have a syfy vibe and space other-worldy sounds.  The band throws in some awesome keyboards to add to their brutal sounds.  I easily put this band in the category of a personal fave of mine, from Spain – Wormed.  If you love Wormed, old Cryptopsy you have to get on the Fractal Generator bandwagon as I have done.  Macrocosmos will easily be in my top 2021 releases – no doubt about that.

Starting with the title track the song erupts into ferocious blast beats and monstrous growls.  The isolated guitar riff, early on just destroys, as it goes into the blast and then some keyboard elements which will have you thinking Fear Factory.  Monster blasting and pure unadulterated heaviness is the name of the game and that keyboard element with the riffing make you feel as if you’ve been transported to a galaxy, far far away…..  “Pendulum” has tremendous double bass drums which create planetary sinkholes to infinity and beyond.  Some of the mid-paced rumbling heaviness has that monster Bolt Thrower groove to it.  Some of the weird guitar melodies, about hallway in are killer, check ‘em out and the rolling drums are exceptional.

“Primordial” has monster blasts and killer riffing, with a variety of tempo shifts to make you crap your pants.  This is actually a very catchy song and the riffing is stupid fast.  There’s a bit of isolated double bass towards the end and the drum production is impressive.

Add Fractal Generator  to my list of new fave bands.  High quality, great musicianship, punishing blast beats and most of all a degree of originality, which is tough to come by nowadays in extreme metal.  Fractal Generator are attempting to stand out from the pact and they do with certain melodies, the keyboards and off-kilter riffing and signature time changes which make for an immersive listening experience.  I encourage you all to listen to this band on headphones to really hear the nuances and all the little sounds and moments which are incorporated into their music.  The production is crisp and tight – the exact type of production you need with this band.  The album cover green color usage is a big plus for me, since green is my favorite color, and it transports you to another dimension.  Fractal Generator’s Macrocosmos is an easy 2021 Buy or Die in my book of brutality!
