Serocs
The Phobos/Deimos Suite

It is no secret my love of the releases of Everlasting Spew Records knows no bounds.  They continue to put out incredible release after incredible release.  This might be one of their best ones of the year. International Super group Serocs puts on a literal clinic with their 2018 release The Phobos/Deimos Suite.

Where to begin with this one?  Well I guess we will start at the beginning. Antonio Freyere (Guitars) did an excellent job in assembled an incredibly talented roster to perform this album.  The opening track “Being” is a complete flurry of amazing drum work by Kevin Paradis (Benighted), who I feel has been a good share of reviews I have done this year along with a current member of First Fragment. (Phil Tougas –Guitars).  It’s hard not to hear the influence of groups like Gorguts and Spawn of Possession and even Cryptopsy there is also some Death in there.

Considering the amount of tracking that had to go on in different locations this project sounds so locked in that it is really impossible to tell that was the case. “Revenants” is probably my favorite track on the album. “Lethe” is a gorgeous instrumental track.  “Nonbeing” continues to display the amount of technicality Serocs shows throughout the album.  Kevin Paradis’ cymbal work compliments the insane fretboard work quite well and makes mid paced portions of this song quite interesting to listen to. The closing track, “Deimos” is a monster clocking in at over eleven minutes. Opening with a singular clean guitar line with some slight reverb. The build-in vibe on this one really shows off the overall dynamics of Serocs.  Laurent Bellemare really does a decent job in the vocal department.  He really has a tough task in managing to find his spot amongst all of the chaotic arrangements.

In a year chalked full of amazing death metal releases, these guys check off all of the boxes. This is a very well done album and I hope it does well for the group and label.  Put this on your to check out list immediately.
