Seriously- what are you doing reading this?- go order it.

There is nothing at all ground breaking on Morbid ways to Die, there really isn’t, it’s about as basic and simple as modern, midpaced, European death metal gets, but by god, it just hits all the right notes and does everything perfectly for the style. Its got big, chunky guitars, and a meaty bass tone courtesy of Germany’s answer to Tue Madsen or Jacob Hansen , Joerg Uken (Aposento, Bleeding Gods, Dawn of Disease, God Dethroned, Despondency, Sinister, Slaughterday, Weak Aside just to name a few), an effective percussive assault and some truly impressive,  authoritative bellows from front man Jorge Colmont Solorzano.

It’s not changing death metal, not will it turn up on many year end lists, but it will get many a necks a snapping when they play live or someone plays one of these tracks nice and loud. The Bolt Thrower-ish opener “The Fire Prevails” sets the tone but after that bruiser, the band  delivers the title track with a surprisingly melodic chorus that really got my attention. They follow that up with “Lies of the Civilized” which has a solid old Swedish death metal canter. There’s little else in the next 6 tracks that changes course, but it’s all enjoyable. There more Bolt Thrower-isms  for (“Base Motives”),   slower track (“The War of Ages to Come”), and little somber mood to close the album out (‘Fountain of Suffering”).

I’m digging what upstart Cleveland Ohio label Redefining Darkness is doing recently- a couple of well picked out European reissues (Wombripper, Pyre), a US deal for Raw Skull Records (Supreme Carnage), and a couple of home grown acts sprinkled in (Graven Maul, From the Hellmouth, Oxygen Destroyer) and upcoming Aussie act Descent.
