Veld
S.I.N

I’m not too familiar with Veld, so after a little research I discover they are from Belarus, have been around since 1995 and have 3 albums under their belt , including 2015s Daemonic (The Art of Dantalian) , which was reviewed and enjoyed in these very pages. So I thought I’d give album number 4 a go.

Its clear these guys are fans of mid era Behemoth ( Zos Kia Cultus though to Evangelion) and other Polish veterans like Vader, Trauma, Decapitated etc. Other influences can be directly traced to the help of a few guests who appear on the album like Romain Goulon (Benighted , Necrophagist) and Karl Sanders(Nile), They play confident and competent, no frills burly, commanding, sometimes technical blackened death metal which wont change the world, but delivers a damn solid, neck snapping experience.

S.I.N (Spawned into Nothingness) has the expected beefy guitar tone and commanding presence the the Polish scene has perfected, and the riffs to back it up.  From opener  “Grand Day of Demise” ( not including sub one minute intro “The Beginning of Madness” and mid album interlude “Awakening”) to closer “Throne of Sin”, the album rips and roars with typical Polish aplomb and immediately identifies its Polish roots. As I said, nothing is game changing, but particularly satisfying riffs arise to start “Sacred War of Lawlessness”  (with Nile‘s Saunders) and in pummeling “Perfecting Slavery”.

The only thing really missing is one of those big, slow monstrous hulking numbers tat most of their peers always seem to deliver, but most of the track have some sort of lumbering moment buried within the vortexes  (“Everlasting Hate”, “Divine Singularity”, “We Will Forever Be”) making for a complete enjoyable album for fans of the style and genre.
