A number of bands are vying to replace Dismember; Notably Interment, Infected Chaos, Smothered, Unwilling Flesh and others. However, here come the Czech Republic’s Brutally Deceased, formerly a much more Grave/Entombed inspired band with album number 3 to arguably jump ahead of everyone and claim the Dismember throne.

Whereas the band’s last two fine albums, 2010s Dead Lovers Guide and 2014s Black Infernal Vortex were tangibly beefier , chunkier, Grave inspired albums (the band named after a Grave song, duh), Satanic Corpse sees the band up the speed and melody and deliver a more slicing, uptempo record that recalls Dismember’s Death Metal and Hate Campaign duo. The band made the slight shift to this sound on the last album (“Divinity and Decay”), but here, it’s complete. The guitar one is still as good as anything else in the genre, and the vocals are a little deeper than Matti Karki’s, but overall when listening to Satanic Corpse I can’t but help recall the likes of “Patrol 17”, “Suicidal Revelation”, “Retaliate”, “Questionable Ethics”,  “Misanthropic” or ‘”Live for the Fear of Pain”and that of course, is a good thing.

The album is absolutely blistering, with the 9 songs coming in under 30 minutes, and many of the songs in the 2-3 minute range. The album does not fuck about, and often feels like a Swedish death metal version of Slayer’s Reign in Blood. There’s not a single wasted note , riff or song. One only need go to “The Disclosure (In the Circle of Thy Bowels)”, the solo in “Hostile Earth”, “Epoch of Self Denial”,  “Where No Gods Dare”, or  two minute blaster, “Withstanding the Funeral”  to hear the more melodic and faster Dismember influence.

The last  part of the album has slightly longer songs with the four minute “At One With the Dead” and 5 minute closer “With Torment We Shall Strive” and there are still some nice lurching mid range grooves in those two tracks (the one and lead in “At One With the Dead” is virtually a cover of Dismember’s “Of Fire” ) as well as “Ruthless Cleansing”. But the intensity and guitar tone will lead this album be be one of the years better efforts in the genre and one of the better new young acts playing the style.
