Imperial Savagery
Imperial Savagery

Storming in from the windy city with war mongering bluster comes the debut from this Chicago black/death metal outfit comprised of a number of the scene’s veterans who have been in or played with the likes of Sons of Famine,  Corpsevomit, Gigan, Lividity, Enmortem, The Everscathed and Nachtmystium. It’s got an expected local scene sound being rough and nasty, but the band I immediately thought if was Chicago’s own Forest of Impaled maybe with a dash Angelcorpse/Diocletian, but more Master/Bones-ish thrash/death metal added.

Being both imperial and savage, the music contained on the album is a  no nonsense and a snarling tumbling ball of feral black/death metal with an ear to the past. Not a clean, pristine Order of Ennead black/death metal but a filthy, solo and melody free vortex of hate. Seething riffs mix higher register black metal shrillness with a gnarly death metal backbone and dominant bellow/rasp from Brice Dalzall.

The 10 songs in 26 minutes go by in a flurry of biting, warring riffs and sneering vocals. None of the songs are going to ever be classics or standout, but the entire album is a killer dervish of palpable hatred and intensity. There’s absolutely no bullshit here. From opener “Faithless Emptiness” through “Your Petrified Cross”, “Enforced Honor”and busy fury of “Breathing Fright” to closer “Infernal Disgust” the album is just pure, old school piss n vinegar metal that a perfect fit for Hells Headbangers.
