Anew Revolution
Rise

Let me start off by saying that this is the most misleading band name of all time. Why do I say this? There is nothing revolutionary about this album other than the fact that it’s a few years too late. Metalcore is the new trend, not numetal. Lateness offends me, at least when it results in bad albums.

All of the conventions are here, the semi-tough sounding vocals although there is some sensitivity here. That means that they employ some really weak clean singing. Multitracking the vocal doesn’t give them any teeth, no matter how many times you tell yourself this, nor does repetitious use of profanity. They have the usual heavy bass production and the 3 chugging guitar riffs that all albums of this ilk have run into the ground. I already knew what this album sounded like in totality before I was three songs in. They even have a song with the requisite chorus of “*insert verb here* the fuck up.” Revolutions are supposed to scare people, this album is so safe that it causes me to grind my teeth incessantly and demand to know why Gojira aren’t the biggest band on this godforsaken mudball. They switch gears a bit on the second half of the album when they break out a ballad and some more sensitive songs. By sensitive I mean they do a really good Nickelback impersonation.

Just avoid this late to the trend morass of mediocrity at all costs, that’s my advice. At least listen to Nickelback and some other random first-generation bad numetal band, the source of the awful. Why go for the eighth-hand version when you can hear the originals?
