Cobra Noir
Abode of the Dead

Filthy, bristling, dirty, crusty punk/hardcore/death ‘n’ roll from Canada with hooded members of In Dying Days, Ire, The Black Hand, Cobra Noir is a no brainer for fans of Cursed.

I’ll get straight to it kids; After two venomous but rather predictable tracks “Lazarus” and “The Treatment”, Cobra Noir delivers the thunderously rocking “Eucharist”, a mid paced rumbling, attitude laced track that has a menacing sneer. “Road to Ruin” starts with the same pace but erupts in a riotous hardcore/punk rant with even a dash of snarling melody, while “High on the Scaffold” and “The Burial” have a sort of early Minor Threat/7 Seconds canter, except down tuned, juiced on ‘roids and teeming with tangible anger. Most of that anger is derived from the near black metal squawk of the vocalist as well as the gritty guitar tone; and is doesn’t let up for a good while. Only “Herald OF Disaster” has any sort of positive veins running through it with its Madball/Agnostic Front pacing and riffage and penultimate track “Bastardize” is the first breather of the record. Closer “This is the Death of Man” is s surprisingly lengthy and somber closer to an otherwise gnawing, pitbull of a record.

Frankly (as you can tell from the brevity of my review), this succinct, short and scarring album is deserving of an equally short a direct review as they aren’t words really necessary to convey this sort of vitriolic beating. But to put it basically, Cobra noir is the exact opposite of With Honor…..take that as you will.
