Released the same time as Engulfed‘s EP, Through the Eternal Damnation, Through the Ages is the debut from Greece’s war mongering quartet War Possession, and while Engulfed seems to have dropped the Bolt Thrower influence from their Burial Invocation days, War Possession is happy to carry on the mantle and deliver 4 tracks and 21 minutes of trundling, simple, satisfying mid paced death metal.

Much like Jungle Rot , Humiliation and such, theme is war and the delivery is steady, deliberate and full of mid paced chunky riffs, and of course plenty of war reference and samples (war through the ages specifically) . Though littered with a few sloppy blast, the bulk and better side of War Possession is slower, steady mid paced and beefy. The guitar tone is superb and suited to this style, and the vocals are gruff and deep.

While there are some salvos of  a more brutal and fast style of death metal, War Possession is at their best when imbuing the British war masters with a slower, more developed double bass backed march such as “Medieval Bloodlust” and “World War Domination”, as the pace and patient twang of the bass is far more satisfying than piece  meal blast beats.

The other two songs aren’t bad either but as there are only 4 songs, and one 2 minute outro, there isn’t quite enough to get exited about any future full length, although I might still check it out.
