Unfortunately, despite Victory Records spurt of semi metal here recently, (Beneath The Sky, Emmure), Florida’s A Day to Remember, following up their tepidly commercial debut, And Their Name Was Treason, deliver a predictably mundane yet Victory styled sophomore album that will appeal to the Hot Topic crowd.

Whereas label mates Beneath The Sky seem genuinely interested in heaviness, while mixing some popular elements in and Emmure are just downright devastating, A Day To Remember are simply a mainstream pop punk/emo band, who randomly throw in some breakdowns and deep vocals.
The catchy Fall Out Boy, Yellowcard styled material such as “Fast Forward to 2012”, “Monument”, “Show ‘Em The Ropes” and undeniably catchy “Here’s to the Past””, is catchy enough for what it is, but then, most of the songs have this sudden and forced segment of deeper growly vocals and stern heft (i.e “A Shot In the Dark”, “Start the Shooting”). It’s decently done but stands out like pedophile at a child’s beauty pageant-it just doesn’t seem to belong.
The thing is, this dichotomy could end up costing the band, as I don’t see the ‘kids’ and girls going for the forced heaviness, and the metal heads are simply going to despise the Warped Tour stylings of the majority of the material. The thing is, this is a band perfectly suited for Victory records roster, and will probably blow up.
