I really like what former doom merchants, Southern Lord, is doing with their crust/hardcore of late; excellent releases from the likes of Nails, Acephalix, Masakari, Black Breath, Planks, Summon the Crows, Sabarante, and this, the fucking blistering debut of All Pigs Must Die.
Featuring Kevin Baker (The Hope Conspiracy) on vocals and Ben Koller (Converge) on drums and (literally) armed with a crusty, mid-range tone from Kurt Ballou, God Is War will appeal to any one who enjoyed the above releases as well as as the like of this years Hellmouth, Trap Them and Enabler releases; violent, feral d-beat crust/grind/hardcore rendered with a snarling sense of prose and an earthy, gritty presence that’s piss, vinegar and shattered teeth.
Opener “Death Dealer” sets the mood perfectly with a slow burning build before utterly unleashing hell about 55 seconds in with a face ripping blast beat, and you know you are in for a hell of a ride. From there, All Pigs Must Die keep their foot on your throat for 8 tracks of relentless, crusty aggression and rumbling burly, pissed off metal that will make your blood pressure explode. The shrapnel from the tracks mix and range from expected d-beat canter, furious blast and seething rumbles; Just go ahead and schedule a painter to redecorate your house after listening to the likes of “Sacrosanct”, “The Blessed Void”, “Third World Genocide” and volatile “Extinction is Ours”. Only closer “Sadistic Vindicator” eases up with a moody, feedback drenched slow crawl, but it still drips venom.
I can’t put it any more succinctly and trying to flesh out such a direct, vicious release would be forced. Just play this CD, incite a riot and fuck shit up. Just try not to kill any pigs please.
