You’ll make all those connections within seconds of raging inferno opener “Black Realm of Satanas” from March into Firelands, a collection of obsidian thrashers of considerable constitution.
Thrashing and bashing its way through venomous, reverb-drenched vocals (Blackvenom kills it here), sickening guitar crunch, and thunderous drumming with great fills, March into Firelands has all of the evil atmosphere and quality song construction you expect from a HHR release. High speed, well written thrash gives way to double-bass pummeled sections of ironclad chug, as though Nifelheim and Sathanas collaborated at the apex of an inebriated Satanic metal ritual gathering of the defiantly like-minded. Beyond the apocalyptic metaphors, March into Firelands works so well because it is packed with memorable songs.
Featuring ex-members of Urn and Barathrum, it is no surprise that the unholy racket unleashed by these Fins is guaranteed to cause the posers and the pious to burst into – you guessed it – flame upon first exposure. Points are awarded for the perfect (as in well suited to the style) production, the well-written and eminently head-bangable compositions, and a sound that smells like the stench of burning flesh. Trust me on this one. We hope you enjoyed your stay in Hell. Oh wait, I forgot about that whole eternal damnation thing. You’re screwed.
