5 Favorite Albums of all Time (According to People That Actually Matter)

Everyone loves lists right? Well, rather than the usual blog where some internet hack, wanna be journalist tries to come up with a list of 10 metal related things or rants about retarded people and tries to make it funny, we here at Teethofthedivine.com thought we would try something different.

Why not put together a list complied from the people actually responsible for bringing the music to us? We scoured our email address books, Myspace pages and little black books for various Metal luminaries including band members, record label staff, media and PR staff, producers and the guy that mops the stage after concerts to get their 5 favorite albums of all time.

Here is the highly collaborative, incredibly comprehensive, exhaustive and informative end result (as usual, feel free to comment, add your own list or simply sell us viagra):

(Thanks to those folks that supplied their lists and the teethofthedivine staff that harassed them)

    Wow! That is an awesome list and very interesting too, definitely some surprises. Pleased to see Rainbow getting a lot of love – I remember when I found my Dad’s copy of Long Live Rock n’ Roll, and thus another metalhead was born.

  2. Commented by: Erik Thomas

    any doubt that Slayers Reign in Blood is the best metal album of all time? (closely followed by Master of Puppets)

  3. Commented by: slimylimey

    That certainly seems to be the concensus, although Death’s Human got a lot of votes too. Strangely only one for Dave Matthew’s Band though – can’t think why.

  4. Commented by: Jodi

    Damn, that’s quite the list!

  5. Commented by: Staylow

    Helluva list there! Several bands with many votes, but alot of interesting surprises too. Good job dudes!

  6. Commented by: Shawn Pelata

  7. Commented by: Erik Thomas

    Yeah- I think ol’ Lord K was having some fun

  8. Commented by: Erik Thomas

    I guess i need to check out Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven- I always thought Vulgar was thier best, but I see Driven on here quite a bit

  9. Commented by: mars

    I think it somewhat proves that the records listened to in the formative years, when first discovering certain music on one’s own are the albums that will make these lists. It has as much to do with human development as it does the strength of the material. Whether it was Judas Priest or Korn “issues”

    That is so true. Nearly all of my all time faves are from my teen years, when I was just beginning to truly discover music. Those initial discoveries are always the longest lasting.

    Nice to see such a list, even though there are submissions by people that actually don’t matter, but it was really good to see Brian Slagel’s top five. I was surprised I didn’t see more nods towards Morbid Angel, whose first four albums are all top notch and “Altars Of Madness” is an undisputed classic of Metal. For my two cents on Morbid Angel, check:

    Thats a good article Juan- but no “God of Emptiness”? shame on you.

  13. Commented by: Juan Manuel Pinto

    Give me a break Erik! I had to narrow it down to 10… It was really difficult, why do you think I used the trick of only choosing from their first four albums? “God Of Emptiness” would have been the 11th song, but it was only a top ten…

    Great piece, although I did not see these three in anyone’s list so I have to add them: 1) SYL-City 2) Emperor-Emperor/Wrath of the Tyrant 3) Weakling-Dead as Dreams…Thanks for a great site

    I like that Gus G. voted a Firewind album in his top 5, lol, funny shit. Is that against the rules?

  16. Commented by: Stacy B.

    Erik, or any other staffers for that matter, you should totally compile a list of most top mentioned albums by all of these artists/musicians so we can see which albums were mentioned the most.

    PLEASE?!?!? :)

    Cheers all!

    I would have thought to see more Megadeth “Rust in Peace” nods on there.

    Cannibal Corpse appears only once? Even though Alex Webster gets to list his favorite albums? (By the way his top two albums match the overall Top Two) …But Vanessa Carlton is there? And Kate Bush? And The Cure? And Hank Williams Jr.? Whoever was responsible for this shoul be Stripped, Raped and Strangled, then Fucked With A Knife, then Split Wide Open, then Gutted and left Covered With Sores until they Vomit The Soul and their Innards Decay and finally, their Rotting Head should be Buried In The Backyard until only A Skull Full Of Maggots remain.

    Too bad that once they’re strangled, they can’t vomit shit…cause they’re fuckin’ dead!

  22. Commented by: Erik Thomas

    Juan- is that last sentence the title of the next Cannibal Corpse album?

  23. Commented by: Juan Manuel Pinto

    Erik: They’re just song titles…

    5 Favorite Albums of all Time (According to People That Actually Matter)

    I laughed none of those people matter at all so many shitty bands on those lists.

  29. Commented by: Anderson Carvalho

    1º Epicus, doomicus, metallicus – Candlemass;
    2º …And justice for all – Metallica;
    3º Heartwork – Carcass;
    4º Damnation – opeth;
    5º Hemispheres – Rush;

  30. Commented by: BKaz

    In my opinion personally:

    1. Maudlin of the Well – Part The Second
    2. Opeth – Still Life
    3. Isis – Panopticon
    4. Porcupine Tree – Fear of a Blank Planet
    5. Edge of Sanity – Crimson II

    note: this is without album repeats from the same band… in which case, top 4 spaces would immediately be filled with every maudlin of the well album =) then opeth would be next in line… and, I don’t care about history or prestige… these albums are clearly better than anything Slayer or Metallica has put out… There, I said it!!

  31. Commented by: jo

    Wow, Im surprised by how often Carcass “Heartwork” appears on these lists. I remember it being panned when it first came out.

  32. Commented by: Facial La Fleur

    Very nice list of lists here and a cool take on the whole thing. I love lists.

    Here are my top 5

    2. MEGADETH – Rust In Peace
    3. DEATH – Symbolic
    4. SLAYER – South Of Heaven
    5. IRON MAIDEN – Iron Maiden
